There have been some excellent romantic movie releases in the recent times. A few have done very well and gained a lot of popularity in comparison to the others. Romantic movies focus on passion and bring out the essences of love like lust, love, obsession, sentiments and emotions. They explore the journey of heartbreaks, romance, obstacles and marriage. Romantic films fill you with emotions that one generally goes through in his or her romantic life. The wide range of variety in the same genre of romance is refreshing and amusing. Beauty and the Beast:

This romantic musical fantasy movie, starring Emma Watson as the beauty and Dan Stevens as the beast, is directed by Bill Condon and co-produced by Walt Disney. It re-narrates Disney’s classic Beauty and the Beast story. They have refashioned the characters to suit the contemporary audience trying to stay true to the classic music that the previous movie had to offer. The songs with some updated scores musically elaborate the fabulous journey of the Belle, whom the beast takes as prisoner. Watching this movie will take you back the original animated one.

La La Land:

This, again, is a romantic, musical drama film, directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The plot is the love story of an inspiring actress and a jazz musician in Los Angeles. Their love story is put to test as they achieve success. Critics highly appreciated this movie for its screenplay, musical score, direction and performances by the actors. The film was nominated for the best film of 2016 and has won many awards. The movie is very fresh and unique and is a must watch.

The Discovery:

The Discovery is a science fiction, romance and drama movie. It is directed by Charlie McDowell and stars Robert Redford, Mary Steenburgen and Brian McCarthy. The movie is about a man who helps a young woman break out of her dark past. The plot is set in the near future, where scientists have proven the afterlife and death has lost its meaning. In the fight of whether to commit suicide to reset their existence or to go on leading the normal life, the world has lost its balance.

 

Me Before You:

A young woman jumps from one job to the other in order to meet her family’s financial needs. She is cheerful and quirky in nature; however, a situation in her life puts it all to test. This romantic drama stars Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin in the lead roles. This movie has received good responses from the critics.

 Song to Song:

Two struggling songwriters find themselves in a love triangle. The movie is directed by Terrence Malick and stars Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman. The scene is set in Austin, Texas. It is the story of the exploration of love and ambition.  The movie has received mixed reviews, but has done very well overall.

Everybody Loves Somebody:

A woman, who seems to have everything one could want, has not understood her love life yet. She has a great job, a big house in Los Angeles and a loving family. She takes her co-worker as her boyfriend to a family wedding and things change when her ex-boyfriend shows up at the same wedding. The movie goes on a fun filled adventure when she has to make the decision of choosing between her past and the possibilities that lie ahead in her future.  The movie is directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta and stars Karla Souza and Jose Maria Yazpik.  The movie has received excellent reviews and the critics called it refreshingly tart. Although the plot sounds like a regular romantic comedy, the movie feels fresh and inventive.

Bridget Jone’s Baby:

This is the sequel of the famous and most loved movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. The movie is directed by Sharon Maguire and stars Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey. Bridget Jones finds out she is pregnant but is not very sure of the identity of the father. The movie goes on about the challenges she faces in her motherhood. The critics have appreciated the performances in this movie. The movie opens in the fashion similar to the prequels but this time it is funnier and sharper. Watching Bridget Jones mumbling and fumbling brings back all the memories of the series.

Fifty Shades Darker:

This erotic, drama, romance is directed by James Foley and stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. It is the sequel to the movie Fifty Shades of Grey.  The lead, Christian, battles his inner evils while Anastasia meets the anger and jealousy of the women before her. They both decide to give another chance to their relationship but this time with no rules.

Lost in Florence:

An American, who is heartbroken, gets himself involved in a sport in Florence that is dangerous. He finds himself in the dilemma of continuing his profession of football and moving on to the next phase of his life. Once he is involved in the local sport, everything changes. This drama, romance is directed by Evan Oppenheimer and stars Brett Dalton, Alessandra Mastronardi, Stana Katic, Alessandro Prezioso, Emily Atack and Marco Bonini.

The Lovers:

Azazel Jacobs has directed this romantic comedy, which released on 5 May 2017. It stars Debra Winger, Tracy Letts, Aidan Gillen, Melora Walters, Tyler Ross and Jessica Sula. The leads Debra Winger and Tracy Letts play the role of a couple married for a long time. They are both dispassionate about their marriage and are in the middle of some very serious matters. They are also cheating on each other. Just when they think of leaving each other and quitting the marriage, they find the long lost spark between them. This leads to a newfound romance. The critics love this movie. Many have even called it a near perfect romantic comedy.
